Application for admission must be made on the prescribed form obtainable from the counters of the Institute and its Extension Centres against payment. Admission Notification is released in the month of January every year and is published in all major newspapers. Requests from outstation candidates for the Application Form and prospectus must accompany the prescribed fee in the form of a Bank Draft /IPOdrawn in favour of Birla Institute of Technology , payable at Mesra/Ranchi. The form will be sent by ordinary post under certificate of posting and the Institute will not be responsible for any postal delay or loss during transit. Students appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply for the entrance test for consideration of provisional admissions subject to the publication of their result by 30th September of the year of admission.

The Examination Centres have been grouped on a zonal basis. The candidate will have the choice to opt for any centre within the zone to whichhe/she belongs as would be determined by the domicile( the place from which he/she has passed the qualifying examination).

The Institute reserves the right to cancel any Centre with insufficient number of candidates. Change of Centre will not be permitted under any circumstances, once the choice has been exercised by the candidate. However, the Institute reserves the right to accommodate candidate opting for a cancelled Centre to some other Centre, at its sole discretion.

The list of candidates eligible for interview on the basis of performance in the written test will be displayed on the notice board of the Institute around the last week of July and would also be published in national newspapers.

The eligible candidates will also be informed separately by registered post. The final merit list after computing the marks obtained in the written test and the interview shall be displayed on the notice boards immediately after interviews are held and the eligible candidates will be asked to take admission. The academic-session commences in August every year.

Limited number of seats are available for direct admission to NRI students based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examinations. Non Resident Indian students desirous of taking admission in the Institute must apply on the prescribed form obtainable free of cost from the Institute against written request.

A limited number of seats will be filled by direct admission by foreign nationals, who fulfil the prescribed eligibility norms. Such students must process their application through the Indian Missions in their respective countries and the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
