Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was established in 1969 to commemorate the quincentenary birth celebration of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is a multi-faceted university spread over an area of 202.34 hectares. The faculties of Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Humanities, Agriculture and Forestry, Food and Fermentation Technology, various other life sciences , Ayurveda system of medicine and Physical Education have in all 35 departments under their aegis. Among these the department of Chemistry and Human Genetics have been accorded international recognition.
