The Department of Computer Science came into existence in 1988 with the introduction of "Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science & Applications" programme. This course was started with the financial assistance from the UGC and Department of Electronics, Govt. of India. In the same year, "Computer Science" was also introduced as a subject at the graduate level. Since the day of its inception the department has been making multifold progress. In 1993, giving due regards to the dedication of the teaching, technical and supporting staff of the department, the UGC accorded the approval to replace the PGDCA programme by the Master Of Computer Applications (MCA) programme, which the Vishwavidyalaya started in the same year.
