IIC aims to fulfill the University's social commitment to provide quality education to meritorious but economically handicapped students through innovative "earn-while you learn programme". Other unique and novel aspects of IIC are flexibility and industry partnership . The course curriculum is kept flexible, to respond to the rapid changes taking place in the field and there is vigorous effort at involving industry as a partner in deciding content of courses taught at IIC.

A new model for the functioning of a teaching laboratory has been introduced to cut down infrastructure costs by involving the students in the management of laboratories and providing them financial assistance in the form of administrative assistantship, thereby implementing earn while you learn programme. From the academic year 2000, the students of Informatics Division will also work as teaching assistants in South Campus to expand computer literacy and internet familiarity among students in other disciplines who are not exposed to computer courses.
