Information Technology integrates a wide spectrum of knowledge and skill ranging from the design of computer hardware, software systems, and telecommunication to the impact of information technology on society. To achieve this holistic goal the Institute of Informatics & Communication (IIC) was established with the following objectives:

1) To serve as an inter-disciplinary centre for humanities, social sciences, pure and applied sciences and as a nodal point between university and various Institutions/Industries, related to communication and informatics.

2) To conduct professional/socially relevant post-graduate teaching programmes, independently or in collaboration with various departments on different aspects on communication and informatics.

3) To conduct research on various aspects of informatics and communication. Unlike the conventional courses on Computer Hardware and Software, the Institute envisages high-end courses integrating computer and telecommunication (Informatics) for graduate students with Physics, Mathematics, Electronics background.

In tune with these concepts, the Informatics Division offers a flexible two-year M.Sc. (Informatics) and three-year Masters in Information Technology programme with an intake of 40 students.

Institute of Informatics and Communication was established in 1997 to achieve the holistic goal of integrating a wide spectrum of knowledge and skills ranging from the design of computer hardware, software systems and telecommunication in its curriculum .The innovative program, M.Sc. Informatics is a unique blend of networking, telecommunication and software development built upon a sound foundation of electronics, mathmatical fundamentals and other core aspects of computing .The entrance process to the course is rigorous so as to ensure quality education.The institute provides an exemplary training ground for inovative practice of learning.

The learning approach at IIC includes classroom lectures, tutorials, project assignments, seminars, presentations where each student has his own terminal with internet facility. With an exemplary history behind it, IIC contnues to produce achievers, with an incessant desire to succeed.
