"We are on the eve of a fresh academic session. The campus will soon have new students and with them will come new ideas and new hopes. We are sure that the University will provide them the right ambience to embark on a real adventure of ideas. My advice to the new students is simple: make the most of this opportunity. The University of Jammu is one of India's premier research and teaching Institutions. It is India’s first ISO 9001:2000 certified public institution of higher learning. You are fortunate to be here, and it is, therefore, essential that you do your best to excel both in academics and in extra-curricular activities. You must attend classes regularly, submit your work in time and develop a reading habit. Other than the departmental library, visit the central Dhanwantri library. You will find a wealth of magazines and journals to keep you updated. Internet facilities are available in the Library and your own department. We have a world-class gym and a range of other sporting facilities. Use them! Culturally, the University has been always active. In November we will host the North Zone Universities cultural festival and in February 2006, universities from all over the region will be here for a South Asia Youth Festival. In October, we will be hosting an international conference on sociology and a number of other special lectures and seminars are on the anvil. You do not need special invitations to attend these seminars and lectures. Just come early enough to find a place. |
